ONE PIECE Creator Hid Secret of the Treasure at the Bottom of the Sea

The latest season of Netflix’s One Piece arrives on March 10th. Don’t expect Monkey D. Luffy and his crew to find the legendary treasure anytime soon, though – the story has been running since 1997 without revealing its location! Creator Eiichiro Oda assures fans the treasure does exist within the story, and he knows exactly what it is and where to find it. However, he’s kept that information a secret, and it seems he intends to keep it that way – he’s essentially hidden the answer so well, it’s as if it’s at the bottom of the ocean.

A special video reveals that Eiichiro Oda has secretly written the truth about the legendary ‘ONE PIECE’ treasure and Monkey D. Luffy, hiding the information on a paper at the bottom of the ocean. He plans to reveal this secret when the series concludes.

A new video from Shonen Jump (the magazine that’s been publishing One Piece for almost 30 years) reveals that the creator, Oda, has made sure the answer to the manga’s biggest mystery won’t be revealed until the story is finished. He’s locked the secret in an envelope, inside a treasure chest, inside a special waterproof container, and sunk it 651 meters underwater! It’s definitely over-the-top, completely unnecessary, and guaranteed to keep fans guessing for years to come.

It’s reassuring that Eiichiro Oda, unlike some authors who leave stories unfinished for years, has promised a conclusion to One Piece. However, he estimates the series will run for around 1,350 chapters, meaning it won’t finish until roughly 2030-2032 – still about five years away. This suggests the story won’t end immediately after the One Piece is found, or at least that readers will need to wait to learn what it actually is. Hopefully, this won’t inspire fans to launch a real-life treasure hunt, but I suppose that’s part of the fun of a story like this.
