As a devoted fan who has spent countless hours immersed in the intricate worlds of superheroes and action films, I must say that James Gunn‘s choice of The Bourne Ultimatum as his favorite trilogy finale is not only understandable but also validated by my own life experiences. This film, with its gripping narrative, intense action sequences, and Matt Damon’s riveting portrayal of a man on the run, has left an indelible mark on me.
James Gunn, a key figure, heads one of the cherished superhero series franchises. Notable trilogies within the DC Universe, boasting impressive third episodes, are often hailed as the greatest of all time. When inquired about his preferred trilogy with an exceptional finale, Gunn’s response took many by surprise.
Following a fan’s disclosure that Guardians Vol. 3 was nearly the finest among the trio, another fan posed the same query to Gunn in discussions. In response, he shared some excellent options before unveiling his own preferred choice.
He often finds “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” to be the top choice, despite not being a traditional trilogy, and he believes that “For a Few Dollars More”, which is his preferred title from the three, is under-appreciated. In his response, Gunn also mentioned “Logan”, “Thor: Ragnarok” and “The Return of the King” before declaring his personal favorite as “The Bourne Ultimatum”, one of his all-time favorite action movies.
2007’s film “The Bourne Ultimatum” was the third movie in the series featuring Matt Damon’s character, Jason Bourne, from the Bourne franchise. In this movie, Bourne delves deep to discover the secrets behind his life as a trained assassin, all while evading CIA agents who are hot on his heels and intent on ending his life.
Instead of The Bourne Ultimatum marking the end of the trilogy, another film called The Bourne Legacy was released in 2012, featuring Jeremy Renner’s character Aaron Cross as the main protagonist. Yet, this movie received mixed feedback and only managed to gross $276 million worldwide, despite having a production budget of $125 million.
2016 saw the release of the latest Jason Bourne film, starring Matt Damon who once again took on the titular character. This time around, Paul Greengrass returned as director, a collaboration that resulted in a mix of critical reception but box office success, with global earnings surpassing $400 million.
I, a die-hard fan, can’t contain my excitement as Gunn works tirelessly on post-production for DC’s inaugural feature-length film, Superman. This eagerly awaited superhero reboot could ignite another thrilling trilogy! The legendary superhero will be brought to life by David Corenswet, while Rachel Brosnahan embodies Lois Lane and Milly Alcock steps into the role of Supergirl, hailing from House of the Dragon.
Despite the storyline remaining under wraps, director James Gunn has hinted at the film centering around Superman grappling with his dual identity as a Kryptonian and a human, while revisiting his origins as the Man of Steel.
