Warner Bros. Pictures has unveiled the initial trailer for the film titled “One Battle After Another“. In this action-filled thriller, Leonardo DiCaprio plays a former revolutionary character. The movie, written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, revolves around a band of ex-revolutionaries who join forces to save one of their comrades’ daughters when their old adversary reappears following a 16-year absence.
In the meantime, Anderson has released his most recent movie following the success of 2021’s award-winning Licorice Pizza. This film, a heartfelt coming-of-age romance drama with Alana Haim and Cooper Hoffman in leading roles, earned three Academy Award nominations.
The brief 21-second preview showcases an action-packed sequence from the movie, interspersed with gunshots echoing in the background. Teyana Taylor’s character, visibly pregnant, is seen aiming and firing a rifle, while DiCaprio’s character nonchalantly takes a sip of his drink and looks on. In the subsequent scene, we witness the birth of the baby, followed by a voiceover querying, “How will you respond to this newborn?
In the sequence that follows, we see the adult child wielding rifles, much like his mother had done. A voiceover remarks near the end, “Even when you think you’ve got it all figured out.” The film’s atmosphere is rugged and offers a fresh perspective on the Titanic actor.
Previously mentioned, the upcoming movie features a modern backdrop and boasts an extensive cast ensemble. Furthermore, whispers circulate that this production could be director Anderson’s costliest yet, with projected budget estimates ranging from $100 to $140 million.
With Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role, the movie boasts an impressive cast that includes Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Sean Penn. Additionally, it serves as a reunion between the director, Anderson, and Licorice Pizza’s breakout star, Alana Haim. For DiCaprio, this project marks his first feature film release since the period drama “Killers of the Flower Moon” (2023), which was both critically acclaimed and award-winning, having been directed by Martin Scorsese.
Besides his latest role, the actor has also appeared in the 2021 film “Don’t Look Up,” a witty science fiction comedy, sharing the screen with Cate Blanchett. Additionally, he was part of the cast for the movie “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” alongside Brad Pitt.
One Battle After Another is set to be released on August 8, 2025.
