Olivier Richters Revealed He Was Close to Playing Juggernaut in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

As a seasoned movie critic, I must say that Olivier Richters‘ journey in Hollywood is nothing short of extraordinary. Standing at an imposing 2.18 meters tall, this Dutch giant has proven time and again that he is more than just a towering figure – he is a formidable talent with a knack for bringing complex characters to life on the silver screen.

Richters’ Hollywood career is a fascinating blend of preparation, luck, and heartbreaking near misses. His size has undeniably opened doors for him, particularly in villain roles, but it has also led to some unfortunate missed opportunities, such as playing Juggernaut in the Deadpool franchise. I cannot help but feel a pang of sympathy for Richters as he recounts his lost chances to play a Wookiee in Star Wars and a Praetorian in Gladiator 2 due to scheduling conflicts and injuries.

Despite these setbacks, Richters remains optimistic about the future, with roles in major franchises and video game adaptations potentially on the horizon. His resilience and determination are truly inspiring, and I eagerly await seeing him bring more unforgettable characters to life on the big screen.

One can’t help but wonder if Richters’ missed opportunities will eventually lead to even greater success down the line – after all, as they say, fortune favors the bold! In the meantime, let’s all cross our fingers that he lands that Juggernaut role someday – I just hope it doesn’t come with a Wookiee costume that won’t fit him properly!

As a passionate cinephile, I can’t help but marvel at the exceptional talents hailing from The Netherlands who have graced Hollywood. From Carice van Houten in the epic saga of Game of Thrones to Michiel Huisman in Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon, their presence has been nothing short of captivating. Now, it’s Olivier Richters, fondly known as ‘The Dutch Giant,’ who is leaving an indelible impression with his performances.

Towering at 7 feet tall, Richters has graced the screens in prominent films such as “Black Widow” and the recent “Indiana Jones”. Upcoming, he’ll make an appearance on the popular Prime Video series “Reacher”, portraying Pauly – a character known for his complexity and intensity.

As a passionate film enthusiast, I can’t help but ponder over what could have been if an incredible opportunity had materialized during Richters’ Hollywood journey. In a fascinating interview with The Nerd Shepherd, he shared that he was on the brink of embodying the formidable character of Juggernaut in the Deadpool franchise. If this offer had come to fruition, his career might have reached even greater heights!

Richter’s journey to Hollywood combines hard work and serendipity. With his imposing stature, he often excels in villainous characters, yet he remains versatile. While his large build has opened numerous possibilities, it has sometimes resulted in overlooked chances as well.

Unfortunately, he missed out on playing a Wookiee in Star Wars as his shoulders were too wide to fit the costume. Moreover, he had to decline auditions for Deadpool 3 and Gladiator 2 because of scheduling conflicts and health issues.

I declined several acting opportunities that came my way, including an audition for Star Wars which I couldn’t attend due to a leg injury. Regrettably, I passed on roles such as a Praetorian in the latest Gladiator film and Juggernaut in Deadpool. It’s a tough situation to find oneself in, turning down such coveted roles, but it happened due to delays in filming Reacher and the actors’ strike. (…)

As an actor with a rich history of portraying various characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia when reflecting on my brief stint as Ursa Major. While it was only meant to be a small arm-wrestling scene, the producers unexpectedly asked me to extend my stay for two more weeks to fill the role. Filming lasted an hour, but much was ultimately cut from the final version.

Looking back, I’m grateful for that opportunity as it opened the door for other roles, most notably Juggernaut. However, when the producers approached me for a part in Deadpool 3 years later, I couldn’t help but wonder if Ursa Major might have a chance at returning to the silver screen.

Upon researching the tall Marvel and DC heroes still available, I was relieved to find that there are indeed a few left. The future remains uncertain, but I remain hopeful and eager for whatever opportunities may come my way in this ever-evolving world of superheroes. Time will tell!
