As a lifelong fan of the Karate Kid franchise, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the upcoming movie featuring none other than the legendary Jackie Chan! Hearing that Ralph Macchio was afraid to face off against him is just hilarious, considering the man still moves like a gazelle on steroids!
As an ardent devotee of all things Cobra Kai, I can’t help but feel a tinge of apprehension as I anticipate Ralph Macchio’s encounter with the martial arts maestro himself, Jackie Chan, in the upcoming Karate Kid film. The series’ own action prodigy, Jacob Bertrand (Eli ‘Hawk’ Moskowitz), shared some intriguing insights about this highly anticipated production featuring the living embodiment of kung fu coolness, during an interview with GamesRadar+.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but reminisce about the conversation I had with Macchio, where he lavished praise on Chan’s combat abilities. He said, “He moves like a 20-year-old and it’s truly terrifying to spar with him,” he told the media outlet. It’s almost redundant to point this out because, let’s face it, he’s clearly a master and an absolute joy to collaborate with. Working on an action flick alongside martial arts legend “Jackie Chan” is bound to be nerve-wracking, no doubt about it.
In summary, Macchio informed Bertrand that the fight scenes turned out “excellent” and he was pleased with all the work done. Macchio went on to express his excitement for the upcoming Karate Kid film, which is scheduled for release next year and boasts a fresh ensemble featuring a youthful cast.
Despite being a significant character on the Netflix show Cobra Kai, Bertrand is absent from the movie. Yet, he frequently converses with Macchio regarding his anecdotes and recent happenings, particularly as Chan plays a role in the production.
In his conversations, Macchio, the actor portraying Daniel La Russo on the show, disclosed some behind-the-scenes facts and shared his thoughts about the young cast members. He commented that they are exceptionally skilled, but not as exceptional as himself, implying that he stands out above them all, as no one else can truly match his talent.
Nevertheless, he swiftly disregarded it, claiming that Macchio’s statement was “word for word” and he probably was just kidding. The Karate Kid reboot, featuring Macchio and Chan alongside a new main character played by Ben Wang, was announced in 2023. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Macchio disclosed that the film will connect to the Netflix series.
He stated that the recently released movie is centered around staying true to the character and understanding what might drive any of his actions. He mentioned using the upcoming season of Cobra Kai as a guide to better grasp certain scenes within the film. “This approach should effectively motivate all the actions,” he continued, “and I hope that this theme becomes apparent to the audience in a positive manner.
In the meantime, the second half of Cobra Kai Season 6 debuts on Netflix on November 15, with Part 3 scheduled for release in 2025. Meanwhile, The Karate Kid is set to be shown in cinemas starting May 30, 2025.
