Let me tell you, dating in your twenties is rough. Seriously, it can feel like a total horror show, and as someone living it, I can vouch for that. Blumhouse seems to be tapping into that anxiety with their new film, Obsession. It’s scary how easily you can get fixated on someone these days, especially with social media constantly reminding you. What if you could just make that person fall for you? Sounds tempting, right? Blumhouse just dropped a chilling teaser that explores that very idea, and honestly, it’s creeping me out. Here’s a look at the trailer for Obsession.
Obsession Trailer Shows You Should Be Careful Who You Wish For…
The trailer immediately creates a creepy and unsettling atmosphere. A man with a crush is determined to get his love interest to notice him, so he makes a wish on a special willow branch, hoping it will make her fall deeply in love with him. When he breaks the branch, he unknowingly sets off a chain of events with frightening results. The wish works, but it quickly becomes clear something is very wrong. Nikki begins to act strangely, displaying increasingly obsessive and disturbing behavior. The trailer ends with a shot of the man, seemingly covered in blood, as Nikki emerges from the darkness and asks, with a chilling calmness, “Do you still think I’m pretty?”
Curry Barker’s new horror film serves as a cautionary tale about getting exactly what you want – and the potential consequences. Think of it as a darker, more mature take on the classic ‘be careful what you wish for’ story, blending elements of 16 Wishes with the unsettling premise of a cursed object like a monkey’s paw. Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette play Bear and Nikki, two childhood friends, in this Blumhouse and Focus Features production.
If you enjoyed Curry Barker’s previous projects, like his found-footage horror film Milk & Serial, you can find more of his work on his YouTube channel.

It seems logical that wishing problems away would fix them, but of course, that’s not how it works. I believe this whole unsettling situation could have been prevented with just a straightforward talk. But love isn’t always easy, is it? And so, the frustrating stories of modern dating go on.
Obsession arrives in theaters on May 15.
