Oblivion Remastered’s lastest patch removes upscaling on Game Pass, for some reason

If you’re currently enjoying Oblivion Remastered on PC through the Xbox Windows app, you may have seen an unexpected 2GB update appear today. Although we haven’t been given detailed patch notes by the developers, it appears that this update primarily addresses various bugs, as these issues seem to be a common occurrence with the remaster version and were not present in the original game.

It’s worth mentioning that there’s a significant alteration in the game’s settings menu that appears unusual to us, and we’re still figuring out whether it was an oversight or deliberate action by the developer. Specifically, if you access the PC version through Game Pass, you might notice that your graphics options have been streamlined as several upscaling features have been taken away from the settings menu.

The game’s menu mentions its features, yet the Anti-Aliasing feature is now unselectable and the Upscaling Technique only offers an “off” option. Additionally, the menu promises frame generation options for Nvidia 40 series cards, but these options are nowhere to be found.

On Steam for PC, all these features are still accessible. However, in the Game Pass version, it appears these features must be deactivated for some reason specific to that version. As both versions of the game on PC may have variations during updates, there could be numerous explanations for this discrepancy. Until we receive a new update or official patch notes, we can’t definitively explain why.
