As a die-hard Oasis fan who grew up with their music playing on endless repeat in my walkman, this news about a potential reunion has left me absolutely thrilled! I remember the days of belting out “Wonderwall” at the top of my lungs during school assemblies and singing along to “Don’t Look Back In Anger” during some of life’s most poignant moments. Oasis was more than just a band; they were the soundtrack of my teenage years, and I still find myself humming their tunes today.
It appears an Oasis reunion might be possible! The band’s founders and notoriously feuding brothers, Noel and Liam Gallagher, seem to hint at a get-together. On Sunday, August 25, they both posted a mysterious snippet featuring the date, August 27, 2024, and time, 8 a.m., on their respective social media accounts (formerly known as Twitter).
The official Oasis website also had “27.08.24” displayed on its main page.
Over the weekend, news unfolded based on UK newspaper reports suggesting Oasis might perform in the U.K. as early as 2025, with a potential 10-night stint at London’s Wembley Stadium. Liam added fuel to reunion rumors through a series of social media posts. On Sunday morning, he expressed his dislike for the term “former” artist, hinting at potential upcoming activities.
When someone expressed disapproval about the band potentially performing at Heaton Park in Manchester, labeling it as “a terrible venue,” Liam responded with, “I’ll see you up front, old chap.”
Oasis split up in 2009 following their final major performance at the V Festival 15 years prior. Formed in 1991, the band comprised lead vocalist Liam and guitarist-composer Noel Gallagher. They rose to fame swiftly in the late ’90s, with their debut album, Definitely Maybe, setting a record as the fastest-selling debut album ever. Their second album, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, solidified their position as leading UK rock musicians.
Thirty years later, Oasis still enjoys popularity with 21 million listeners on Spotify.
Their constant bickering sibling dynamic came to an end following a violent altercation between them prior to a show in Paris, leading Noel to leave the group. Since then, they haven’t shared a stage; however, Liam recently completed a tour with his own band, performing Definitely Maybe, which received an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response as expected.
Apart from him being enthusiastic for quite some time about them performing together again, it seems that Noel has only more recently shown interest in this collaboration. Some believe that the costly divorce he went through last year may have impacted his perspective on the reunion.
Back in April, Oasis was nominated for the first time for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. If they were inducted, it might have led to a reunion of the Gallagher brothers. But when Liam responded to the nomination, he quickly dismissed that idea, labeling the museum and organization as “nonsense.” In another statement, he suggested that his brother enjoys socializing with famous people, so he might attend.
In light of talks about the Gallagher brothers potentially reunioning, it was reported by The Daily Mail on Sunday that a spot for Oasis might be reserved at Glastonbury for the following summer.
