Joe Berlinger, renowned director of HBO’s “Paradise Lost,” is venturing into the realm of Cold War suspense stories. He will be directing a modern adaptation of the chilling 1962 novel “Fail-Safe” by authors Eugene Burdick and Harvey Wheeler.
The book serves as the basis for Sidney Lumet’s 1964 movie, and it narrates a chilling tale in which a technical malfunction propels the United States military relentlessly towards a catastrophic nuclear confrontation with the Soviet Union.
In a different take on the original story, Berlinger’s interpretation will portray a documentary scenario as if the novel’s occurrences transpired authentically in the year 1967. This depiction presents New York and Moscow being obliterated, leaving humanity grappling with the grim aftermath and its terrifying repercussions.
