So, Novo Nordisk. (NVO 1.77%). Last year was… a disaster. A 40% drop in the stock. Forty percent! People are just throwing money away, it’s unbelievable. And for what? Apparently, Eli Lilly (LLY 0.34%) is doing something right with their drugs, Mounjaro, Zepbound… names I can barely pronounce. It’s like they’re trying to make it difficult. And Novo’s earnings? Down nearly 30% in a quarter. You know, I like consistency. Is that too much to ask? First quarter, $6.53. Fine. Third quarter, $4.50. What is this, a garage sale?
But here’s the thing. A 30% drop in earnings, okay, that’s bad. But does that justify a 40% hit to the stock price? I mean, come on. People are irrational. Completely irrational. They panic over everything. It’s exhausting.
Then 2026 starts, and suddenly everyone’s buying again. It’s like they all decided to sell low in December for tax reasons – which, fine, whatever, I get it – and then immediately reversed course on January 1st. Three percent jump on the first day! Three percent! As if flipping a calendar page magically fixes everything. It’s… suspicious. It feels like a setup. Like everyone’s in on a joke I’m not getting.
Is there anything actually driving this rally, or is it just… hope? Hope that this time will be different? That’s what they always say, isn’t it? “This time is different.” It never is. Never.
But, okay, maybe there’s something. Apparently, this oral version of Wegovy is doing… numbers. 18,000 prescriptions in its second week. Eighteen thousand. And Lilly’s Zepbound? Only 8,000. Injectable, by the way. Injectable! Who wants to inject themselves? It’s barbaric. People want convenience. They want a pill. It’s not rocket science. And suddenly, everyone’s excited again. It’s a pill! Like that solves everything.
This news, of course, gave Novo another little bump. Another percentage point or two. It’s like they’re rewarding them for making a pill. It’s absurd. But fine, okay. The stock is trading at a 17 price-to-earnings ratio, and the pills are selling. So, I’m predicting a rebound. Not because I’m optimistic, mind you. Just because, statistically, things can’t get much worse. And honestly, I’m tired of watching my portfolio suffer. It’s stressful. Very stressful. So, yeah, a rebound. Don’t thank me. It’s just logic.
