Fans of Roman city-building games have a lot to look forward to! Not only is Anno 117 launching this year, but Nova Roma, another exciting city-builder, is planned for release on PC in Early Access on January 22, 2026. It looks like winter will be a time of plenty for us all!
In Nova Roma, you guide a group of refugees fleeing the crumbling Roman Empire, seeking a fresh start and a chance to rebuild a glorious civilization. To make your new city flourish, you must keep both your people happy and the gods pleased.
If you enjoyed Kingdoms & Castles, you’ll quickly pick up Nova Roma. However, Lion Shield has added new features to make the game feel authentically Roman. One key addition is the ability to control water flow, which is essential for building aqueducts. Just be sure to keep them in good repair – realistic water physics mean floods can happen if you’re not careful!
Honestly, when people talk about keeping the gods happy in Nova Roma, they really mean it. These aren’t just stories – the gods are actually real, and believe me, you do not want to get on their bad side. Think classic mythology – wrathful, powerful, and definitely not forgiving. It’s serious business!
Players should also plan their defenses, as both barbarians and the empire’s own army might attack New Rome.
Nova Roma launches on PC on January 22, 2026. Players with a PC Game Pass subscription will also be able to try it out as part of the Game Preview program.
