Nova Centurion #5 is easily the best issue of the series to date.
Seeing Nova and Star-Lord team up again was enjoyable, even if their initial meeting involved a cliché fight. The scene was surprisingly written as if Rich lost his powers when his helmet was removed, making him vulnerable to injury from a normal human like Star-Lord. This seems to stem from a misunderstanding of Nova’s abilities, echoing a previous, unpopular interpretation of the Nova powers seen with the character Sam Alexander. Despite this, it was still a fun and ultimately heartwarming reunion between two old friends, as expected.
This issue was full of surprising twists and plenty of action to keep readers engaged. I’m really enjoying the complex characters of Aalbort and Cammi, and this issue especially made me appreciate Cammi’s journey. I’m eager to see how the writer, MacKay, resolves the challenges she’s facing.
The artwork in this issue was uneven. While some panels were excellent – the Klingon-inspired ships looked particularly impressive – others weren’t very good. Fortunately, Iacono’s coloring significantly improved the overall visual experience. The cover, created by Cappucio and Rosenberg, was eye-catching and effectively highlighted the main conflict of the story.
It looks like this exciting series might be ending soon. Marvel is scaling back its cosmic comics, and there’s no announcement for issue #7, suggesting issue #6 could be the last. Hopefully, Marvel will reconsider and give the series a chance to continue and find a wider audience.
Just a heads-up: this summer marks the 50th anniversary of Nova! I’ve started a petition asking Marvel to celebrate with a special commemorative issue. If you’d like to show your support, please sign the petition here: https://c.org/wN6zvGY5rp
Please continue to purchase this book and share it with your friends. Also, help spread the word by posting the petition link on Facebook, other social media platforms, and any comic book forums you frequent. We need to show Marvel how many fans want them to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Rich Rider in the Marvel Universe by signing the petition.
Here’s to 50 years of Rich Rider Nova! Long live Rich Rider Nova!
