‘Nothing Got Us Excited’: Kit Harrington Opens Why He Can’t Work On New Game of Thrones Show

As a lifestyle expert with an extensive background in the entertainment industry, I can confidently say that Kit Harrington’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Having witnessed his transformative character development as Jon Snow on Game of Thrones, it’s fascinating to see him navigate through his post-GOT career with such grace and versatility.

Kit Harington, famously known for his spellbinding performances on HBO’s leading series Game of Thrones, underwent remarkable character growth throughout the show with his portrayal of Jon Snow. Although Harington remains connected to HBO due to his upcoming role in Industry season 3, he has expressed that he has moved past his passion for Game of Thrones.

Kit Harington is flourishing in his career post-“Game of Thrones,” having starred in several notable films and series such as Gunpowder on HBO/BBC One, the critically acclaimed crime thriller “Blood for Dust” directed by Rod Blackhurst, and the latest mystery thriller “The Beast Within,” helmed by Alexander J. Farrell. Despite his continued association with HBO, Harington, at 37 years old, has opted not to revisit the memories of “Game of Thrones” as he chose not to watch the “Game of Thrones” prequel or the flagship series “House of the Dragon.”

House of the Dragon has amassed a remarkable fanbase reminiscent of the original Game of Thrones series, with another spin-off titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms scheduled to air on HBO in 2025. During an interview with GQ during his promotional tour for Season 3 of Industry where he portrays CEO Henry Muck of green tech energy company Lumi, Kit Harrington expressed some reservations about reprising the role of Jon Snow, given that he’s played the character for over eight years and HBO had approached him with another Game of Thrones spin-off.

Initially, when informed about the scrapped HBO series focusing on Snow’s post-Game of Thrones exploits, the Pompeii actor expressed reluctance. However, as he pondered over it, he found potential in the story of a soldier navigating life after war. He expressed that there might still be compelling aspects to explore and stories left untold, albeit in a confined manner. Together with his team, they worked on developing this concept for a couple of years, but ultimately, nothing sparked their enthusiasm enough to move forward.

To this point, it seems that Harrington’s tenure in the Game of Thrones saga has come to an end, yet he expresses no remorse. However, one aspect of the series consistently bothered the star, and that was the much-debated ending of Game of Thrones. In his own words, “I believe the issue with the conclusion of ‘Thrones’ is that we were all so incredibly exhausted.” He further stated that they simply couldn’t carry on any longer.

The MCU actor found the criticism aimed at the series finale’s pace understandable and might even concur. Yet, he remained uncertain if there was a different way to conclude the show as it stood. Reflecting on photos from the last season, it was apparent to him that he appeared drained.

“He appeared exhausted and admitted that another season might have been too much for him. However, he defended the conclusion by acknowledging everyone’s right to their own opinion. He conceded that the show had its flaws, particularly in the storyline towards the end, adding that some creative decisions didn’t quite hit the mark.”

Currently, even though his “most significant, pivotal project” stands as his greatest achievement, Harrington remains engrossed in exploring other business opportunities.
