Not Cynthia Erivo But THIS Actress Was The First Choice To Play Elphaba In Wicked; Details Inside

As a long-time fan of musicals and Demi Moore’s captivating performances, I can’t help but wonder what Wicked would have looked like if she had played Elphaba instead of Cynthia Erivo. The thought of Moore’s raw emotion and powerful presence in the role of the misunderstood green witch sends shivers down my spine!

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but sing praises from every rooftop about Demi Moore’s exceptional performance in The Substance. It seems everyone, from the audience to the critics, is raving about her work! Meanwhile, Cynthia Erivo has been creating quite a stir online for her mesmerizing portrayal of Elphaba in Wicked. I can hardly wait to see both performances unfold on the silver screen!

Instead of Moore playing the green wizard in the latter film, it turns out Demi Moore almost got cast as Elphaba. As revealed by producer Marc Platt during an interview with Vanity Fair, the production for Wicked began before its Broadway debut in 2003. According to Platt, Demi Moore was one of several prominent actors who were seriously considered for the role.

In an interview, Platt shared that he’s trying to remember the sequence of events accurately. He thinks it was around the time he took over as president of production at Universal when the project was already in place… It seems the script had originally been optioned by Demi Moore’s company previously.

He further stated, “People who had expressed an interest in the first six months included Whoopi Goldberg and Claire Danes… Salma Hayek had had some interest, and Laurie Metcalf.”

Platt added that several well-known actresses like Emma Thompson, Nicole Kidman, and Michelle Pfeiffer had been considered for the part of Glinda in the movie, but it never got made.

In his discussion, the previous producer of Universal suggested that Meryl Streep could have taken any role in the movie, however, he believed she would have been particularly suited to play Elphaba. Expounding on this, he stated, “On various occasions, she might have excelled at either part, but in that instant, it was undeniably for Elphaba.

In the new adaptation of Wicked, Erivo seamlessly became one with her role. Critics and viewers alike have been raving about the stellar ensemble cast, featuring Ariana Grande, Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Bowen Yang, Jeff Goldblum, and more.

The film will soon be available to watch on streaming platforms.
