From addiction into recovery

At 33 years old, Chet Hanks has experienced a mix of highs and lows. Born to globally recognized parents Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, he’s been under the spotlight since birth. Yet, among his experiences, his battles with addiction stand out as particularly challenging periods in his life.

During a recent episode of Bradley Martyn’s Raw Talk podcast, Hanks openly discussed his past struggle with cocaine addiction. When questioned about the type of substances he had used in the past, he candidly admitted, “I was a full-blown cocaine addict,” and even shared that others who were using drugs with him suggested he should moderate his use due to its severity.

When Hank turned sixteen, his parents enrolled him in a wilderness therapy program in Utah due to his addiction to drugs such as cocaine and marijuana. This journey was challenging, requiring numerous hikes and being under the watchful eye of staff members who didn’t fully trust any participant.

In the interview conducted in 2022, he recalled, “They led us on a confusing trail while carrying an 80-pound backpack. So much is running through your mind. You feel like you’re being scrutinized. They were essentially probing into your psyche and dissecting your character.”

Embracing a new path

After conquering addiction, Tom Hanks has since transformed his life and embraced Christianity deeply. He now bears a large cross tattoo prominently on his chest, which appears to have been the initial reason for its inscription. Hanks attributes his purpose in life to God while maintaining this belief through a tattoo that he chose to remove from public view.

In his own words: “Every suffering I’ve experienced stems from a single source – the deception of thinking that my purpose is anything other than serving God.” This is due to Hank’s spiritual path starting with honesty, and now he has faith that as long as he depends on God, all will be well aligned.
