As a lifestyle expert with a deep affection for literature and storytelling, I am thrilled to share my thoughts on Éanna Hardwicke’s role as the narrator of Sally Rooney’s upcoming audiobook, Intermezzo. Being a fan of Sally Rooney’s work myself, I can only imagine the immense privilege that comes with bringing her words to life, especially after having played Rob Hegarty in the adaptation of Normal People.
Actor Éanna Hardwicke, known for his role as Rob Hegarty in the Hulu version of Sally Rooney’s popular novel Normal People, will narrate the audiobook of her upcoming book Intermezzo. In an interview with People magazine, the actor shared why this opportunity holds significant importance to him.
“He expressed his deep admiration for Sally Rooney’s writing, stating she has an exceptional ability to make us feel intimately connected with her characters’ emotions. He further shared that the television series ‘Normal People’ significantly impacted him, not only due to his involvement in its film adaptation, but also because of Rooney’s compelling and heartrending narrative.”
1) He mentioned that, similar to compelling tales, this series has the power to evoke laughter, tears, and a heightened perspective on life. It’s a blessing to be part of it, but to tell the story of Intermezzo and attempt to embody Sally’s unique voice is an honor for him.
As someone who has lost a parent and experienced the complexities of grief, I find the new novel by a renowned author particularly intriguing. The story revolves around two brothers and their struggles with their relationship dynamics while coping with their father’s passing. The older brother, Peter, is a Dublin-based lawyer grappling with relationships involving two women and relying on sleeping pills to manage his emotional turmoil. This narrative resonates deeply with my own experiences, and I eagerly anticipate delving deeper into the complexities of human emotions and resilience that the book promises to explore.
The story revolves around Ivan, a young, socially awkward chess genius who finds himself entangled with an older woman. As suggested by the plot summary, the novel promises to be a captivating journey exploring themes of longing, sorrow, and hope, chronicling the lives of Peter, Ivan, and their respective partners during this transformative phase.
Rooney’s forthcoming novel will be released by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in the United States and Faber & Faber in the UK. To date, she has been a best-selling author with each of her three earlier works – Conversations with Friends (2017), Normal People (2018) and Beautiful World, Where Are You? (2021).
2020’s Hulu series “Normal People,” an adaption of the novel by the same name, was a massive hit, with Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones excelling in their leading roles. This marked a significant breakthrough for both actors. The 2022 release on Hulu, “Conversations with Friends,” features Joe Alwyn, Alison Oliver, Sasha Lane, and Jemima Kirke, bringing another popular novel to life on TV.
Intermezzo will be published on September 24 and is available for pre-order.
