As a huge movie fan, I’m getting seriously excited about Christopher Nolan’s new film, The Odyssey. Empire magazine just dropped the first photos of Zendaya and Robert Pattinson on set, and it’s giving us a tantalizing first look at what promises to be an epic movie. I can’t wait to see what Nolan’s cooked up with this cast!

This movie is based on the classic Greek story of Odysseus, a king trying to find his way back home after fighting in the Trojan War.
I’m so excited for this new movie! Matt Damon is going to be incredible as Odysseus, and Anne Hathaway is perfect as his wife, Penelope. I also heard Tom Holland will be playing their son, Telemachus, and Zendaya is going to be Athena – the goddess of wisdom and war! The cast is amazing.
Robert Pattinson will portray Antinous, a suitor of Penelope, while Charlize Theron will play the powerful witch-goddess Circe. The film also features Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, and a large cast of other talented actors.
So, I’m really excited about Christopher Nolan’s new project! He started working on what’s currently titled The Odyssey back in March 2024, and by October, he’d actually landed a deal with Universal to make it happen. They officially announced the film in December, and they’ve been quietly building the cast ever since. The big news? Matt Damon is going to be playing Odysseus, which they confirmed just a few months ago in February!
As a total film buff, I was blown away learning about the sheer scale of Nolan’s latest! They filmed The Odyssey all over the world – Morocco, Greece, Italy, Scotland, Iceland, even the Western Sahara – from February to August. And get this: with a budget around $250 million, it’s his most ambitious and expensive project yet, and the first one he shot completely on IMAX 70mm film. It’s going to be visually stunning, to say the least!
The story centers on Odysseus’s dangerous trip back home, where he faces legendary creatures like the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the witch Circe, all while hoping to return to his wife, Penelope. Director Christopher Nolan has called Odysseus a brilliant and cunning strategist, explaining that he was captivated by the character’s intelligence and resourcefulness.
Universal Pictures will release the movie The Odyssey in U.S. theaters on July 17, 2026.
