As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that Millennium Media has tapped Noah Centineo as the main star for the upcoming Rambo prequel, titled “John Rambo”. The talented Jalmari Helander, director of “Sisu”, is set to helm this project from a script penned by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani.
Production and Distribution
According to Deadline’s report, filming for the upcoming movie is set to start in early 2026 in Thailand. Although no distribution agreement has been confirmed yet, Lionsgate appears to be the front-runner. Notably, Lionsgate was behind the last two Rambo films and has collaborated with Helander on the recent film titled “Sisu”.

Story Details
The movie’s details are still under wraps, but it will delve into the beginnings of John Rambo, a character introduced during the Vietnam War. Originally conceived by David Morell in his novel “First Blood”, Sylvester Stallone brought this iconic action hero to life on screen in 1982. The Rambo portrayed by Stallone has left an indelible mark on cinema, featuring in five films that have amassed over $800 million globally. The latest installment, “Rambo: Last Blood” (2019), raked in a impressive $92 million at the box office.

Stallone’s Involvement
Stallone isn’t part of the prequel’s cast, according to the article. It mentions that he learned about the project and Centineo’s involvement, but he hasn’t chosen to participate in it.

Producers
The movie is being made by Kevin King-Templeton from Templeton Media, Les Weldon, Jonathan Yunger, and Avi Lerner. Trevor Short, Dallas Sonnier, and Amanda Presmyk are serving as executive producers.
Centineo’s Career
Centineo portrayed Atom Smasher in Black Adam, a role that has made him particularly recognized, especially for his work on Netflix’s To All the Boys I Loved Before and The Recruit. This action-lead role marks a significant step in his career and could potentially elevate him to higher tiers within the A-list realm. In 2026, you can catch him as Ken Masters in Legendary’s Street Fighter, starring alongside Jason Momoa and Andrew Koji. His recent projects include roles in A24’s Warfare and Our Hero, Balthazar, which premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival.
