No Robert Pattinson in DCU: Concerns Raised About Gunn’s Batman (Exclusive)

Over the weekend, we were at Comic-Con, and an inside source from Warner Bros. revealed to Cosmic Book News that Robert Pattinson won’t join James Gunn’s DC Universe, contrary to the rumors.

This aligns with what Gunn stated publicly, and he recently reinforced this in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. (Alternatively, “This matches what Gunn has expressed publicly, and he recently echoed the same sentiment in an interview with ET.”)

James Gunn Reaffirms: Pattinson Not in the DCU

After I posted the insider tip on social media, Gunn responded to Entertainment Tonight saying:

“I’ve said it before. We’ve talked about it before, but it’s not what’s happening right now.”

It’s been made plain that Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of Batman will continue to exist independently within the Elseworlds universe, with Matt Reeves leading the way.

It’s worth mentioning that Gunn included “right now” in his statement. There are rumors suggesting they are cautiously observing the success of Superman at the box office, as their decision to introduce Robert Pattinson as the DCU’s Batman might depend on how well Superman performs financially. This weekend, Superman surpassed $500M at the box office.

Internal Concerns About Gunn’s Batman Direction

There seems to be agreement among Warner Bros. executives regarding the approach for Superman, but there might be some reservations concerning James Gunn’s ideas for Batman, according to an inside source.

The issues arising from our discussion revolve around Gunn’s lighter, humorous and quirky approach to Superman, and whether this style would align or contrast with the somber, serious demeanor usually connected to Batman.

Defending Gunn’s position, he claims every DC Universe project will exhibit its own unique mood. Yet, it still remains uncertain since all DC films overseen by Gunn possess a similar, lighthearted, humorous tone.

James Gunn’s DCU Batman plans

James Gunn has recently confirmed that the production of Batman: The Brave and the Bold continues to move forward within the DC Universe.

Andy Muschietti, known for “The Flash”, continues as the director, hinting at his ongoing involvement in the project. Moreover, Muschietti recently attended the premiere of “Superman”, suggesting a continued presence off-screen. Similarly, Matt Reeves was spotted at the event as well.

As of now, neither a casting nor a premiere date has been set, however, it’s anticipated that a fresh interpretation of Bruce Wayne will debut alongside Damian Wayne as Robin in this upcoming movie. The script is still being refined.
