As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the buzz surrounding the rumored Nintendo Switch 2 has me more excited than ever before! Having grown up with the original Game Boy and witnessing the evolution of Nintendo consoles through the years, I’ve always been captivated by their innovative approach to gaming.
The recent surge in interest around the potential AI-based upscaling technology, as hinted at in Nintendo’s patent, has me intrigued. The idea that a game running at 1080p could be made to appear like it’s in 4K is nothing short of mind-blowing! It seems that the future of gaming is here, and I can’t wait to get my hands on this technology.
I’ve seen similar technologies in action before, such as Nvidia’s DLSS and Sony’s PSSR for the PS5 Pro, but the prospect of Nintendo implementing it in their console has me particularly thrilled. If the new system offers performance comparable to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, while also supporting features like ray tracing, it could be a real game-changer in the industry.
Nintendo’s announcement that they plan to unveil their next console before March 31, 2025, has me counting down the days. Until then, I’ll continue to analyze every piece of information available and share my insights with fellow enthusiasts. Who knows? Maybe we’ll even discover a hidden Easter egg or two!
And let’s not forget the joke:
I wonder if Nintendo will also implement a “Time-Travel Mode” in their new console, allowing us to revisit our favorite retro games from the past with crystal clear graphics. After all, who wouldn’t want to explore the Mushroom Kingdom in 4K resolution?
As a long-time Nintendo enthusiast with fond memories of playing Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda on my original NES, I’ve been eagerly awaiting news about the next console from Nintendo, often referred to as the Switch 2. Over the past few weeks, I’ve found myself scouring the internet for any hints regarding its features, fueled by my excitement and anticipation. This recent surge of interest in a patent filed by Nintendo for AI-based upscaling technology has only added to the hype, causing many of us to flock to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s website in search of more information. Unfortunately, the overwhelming demand temporarily took the site down, leaving us all on the edge of our seats, eagerly waiting for any updates. I can’t wait to see what Nintendo has in store for its fans with the next generation console!
A patent called ‘Systems and Methods for Machine Learned Image Conversion’ was submitted on July 13, 2023, and released to the public on December 31, 2024. Laura Kate Dale, a consultant, brought it to broader notice by discussing it on Bluesky. The technical document, comprising 39 pages, has generated considerable interest within our community.
This technology is designed to improve lower-resolution images, making them seem clearer and of higher quality, almost as if a game running at 1080p resolution resembles one running at 4K. Essentially, it uses AI to boost the image scale, similar to Nvidia’s DLSS and Sony’s PSSR for the PS5 Pro, which are created to enhance visuals in games without needing more powerful hardware.
It appears that a recent Nintendo patent, published yesterday, suggests once more that the upcoming Switch 2 may adopt AI upscaling technology similar to DLSS (Nvidia’s chip) to enhance game resolution output, rather than aiming to run games natively at higher internal resolutions. Although the patent doesn’t explicitly refer to the Switch 2, its release timing and technological characteristics seem to hint at it possibly being included in Nintendo’s future console lineup. This conforms with rumors suggesting that the next system might deliver performance on par with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, potentially incorporating capabilities such as ray tracing.
Nintendo has hinted that they will unveil their upcoming console before their fiscal year ends on March 31, 2025. In other words, we’re likely to hear more about it within the coming months. For now, we’ll keep a close eye on any new information as we eagerly anticipate Nintendo’s future gaming innovations.
