Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons May Feature Customizable Side Panels, According to Leaks

Recent speculations indicate that the upcoming Joy-Cons for the Nintendo Switch 2 might include an innovative feature – customizable side panels. This concept bears a resemblance to the PlayStation 5’s detachable side plates. However, unlike Sony’s design which applies to the console, this customization is intended for the controllers in Nintendo’s case.

Based on information from CentroLeaks, it is speculated that the Joy-Cons for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 could feature removable side panels for potential customization or replacement.

According to the report, you’ll have the opportunity to personalize the side sections of your Joy-Con controllers, similar to how you can switch out the faceplates on a PS5 console. However, note that unlike the PS5, this customization is exclusive to the Joy-Cons.

As a gamer, I’m excited to share that soon, I’ll have the freedom to personalize my Joy-Con 2 side grips, just like I do with the PlayStation 5 faceplates! Already, there are some fresh designs emerging that I can’t wait to get my hands on.

Some vendors are now making available online the detachable side panels for these products. On platforms such as Alibaba, you’ll discover “decorative controller strips” priced roughly at $4 for the Switch 2.

These colorful strips enable you to customize the appearance of your Joy-Cons, but it seems currently, you can’t adjust the thumbstick color to coordinate with the newly added panels.

Should this speculated feature indeed materialize, it would provide gamers an entertaining and budget-friendly option for revamping their controllers, eliminating the need to purchase an entirely new pair of Joy-Cons. However, it’s important to note that Nintendo has not yet confirmed its authenticity officially.

If accurate, it wouldn’t come as a shock if Nintendo began offering custom decorative side panels for sale in the near future. However, at this point, it appears that third-party vendors are leading the market.
