Nintendo president and CEO Doug Bowser steps down

Doug Bowser, the president and CEO of Nintendo America, will be leaving his position on December 31, 2025, after serving for over ten years.

Devon Pritchard, who previously led sales, marketing, and customer service at Nintendo of America, will now be the president of Nintendo of America, succeeding Doug Bowser.

Bowser shared that one of his first video game memories is playing the arcade game Donkey Kong. He’s been a Nintendo fan ever since, and that passion extends to his family. He called leading Nintendo of America a tremendous honor, and expressed pride in his team’s achievements in both sales and creating enjoyable experiences for players.

It’s time for a new leader, and Devon has consistently proven herself. Her success and the valuable strategies she’s brought to the company make her the perfect choice for this promotion. I’m certain she’ll lead us to continued success.

As a huge Nintendo fan, I’ve always been impressed with what Bowser’s done for the company. He was absolutely key in getting both the Switch – which has become one of Nintendo’s best-selling consoles ever – and the Switch 2 off the ground. Plus, he’s been instrumental in building amazing partnerships, like the Super Mario movie and all the cool theme park attractions. It’s clear he’s a big reason why Nintendo continues to thrive!

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa noted that Bowser has brought joy to those who work at Nintendo.

The news follows closely on the heels of the latest Nintendo Direct presentation, where a Super Mario Galaxy film was revealed, gameplay for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was showcased, and several new games from other developers were announced for the Nintendo Switch 2.
