Despite rumors about the imminent release of the Switch 2, Nintendo remains firm in their predetermined timeline for the product launch. As stated by Krysta Yang, who was instrumental in the initial Switch rollout, Nintendo maintains a fixed release date and shows no signs of altering it.
According to Kit Ellis, a previous marketing director at Nintendo, Yang’s perspective aligns with his own. They both anticipate that Nintendo will adhere to its predetermined timeline. They have examined the calendar and identified potential announcement periods before the end of January. However, they remain uncertain about the specific date. Ellis posits that Nintendo might choose to steer clear of the U.S. inauguration but sees suitable alternatives following CES week.
Ellis emphasizes that Nintendo tends to opt for strategic long-term strategies rather than swift responses. Responding to leaks might lead to complications. Although leaks can be unsettling, Ellis is confident they’ll become insignificant once the official unveiling takes place, given that no game or software specifics have been leaked so far.
Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, confirmed that the unveiling of the Switch 2 will still occur by March 2025, as previously scheduled. This announcement follows a 31% decrease in Switch sales from July to September 2024, amidst mounting expectations and investor/fan pressure. However, Nintendo remains firm about their timeline, despite lower sales figures.
It’s considered improbable for an announcement of a new console to occur in 2024. Experts suggest that such an announcement during the busy holiday shopping period might negatively impact current sales. Therefore, any upcoming announcements this year are likely to focus on smaller products rather than the next-generation console.
Regardless of how unconventional these leaks may be, Nintendo remains committed to their strategy. They’ve got a specific date marked on their calendar, and they’re standing firm, come rain or shine.

Even though there have been some hiccups with leaks and a dip in sales, I as a dedicated fan, can confidently say that Nintendo is sticking to their original blueprint for the unveiling of the Switch 2. They prioritize meticulous planning over all else and aren’t easily swayed by external pressures to alter their schedule.
