Nintendo details free Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Switch 2 upgrades

Nintendo offers additional details about the free enhancements for select first-party games like Pokémon Scarlet & Violet that will be available for the Switch 2.

The upcoming Pokémon games have surpassed Sword & Shield in sales and are being specifically enhanced for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, as well as high-definition TVs. This optimization aims to deliver better visual quality. Furthermore, the frame rate within these games will be boosted on the Nintendo Switch 2, ensuring smoother gameplay.

In the screenshots from Switch 2, you’ll notice not just aesthetic enhancements, but also indications of an apparent rise in the number of wild Pokémon that can appear simultaneously on the screen. At present, the game is limited to displaying a maximum of 15 creatures at once. This potential upgrade would be particularly beneficial for Shiny hunters as it would make finding rare versions of Pokémon more effortless than before.

Additionally, Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Echoes of Wisdom), and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening are also receiving similar updates.

The gaming magazine Denfaminico shared footage of Cyberpunk 2077 on Nintendo Switch 2; the game appears to run quite fluidly while still delivering high-quality graphics, suggesting that the system’s performance is impressive.

The new Nintendo Switch model is scheduled to hit stores on June 5, 2025. Given potential future price hikes due to tariff issues, enthusiasts might want to secure their console ahead of time. In the meantime, preparations for its launch are well underway at Nintendo, with the most recent update to the Switch system including a few features tailored for the upcoming Switch 2, such as Game Sharing.

If you’ve successfully secured a pre-order for the Nintendo Switch 2, it might be worth exploring all the games scheduled to launch with it. While navigating through the menu can certainly keep you entertained, there’s only so much fun to be had there in the long run.
