
It looks like the global cinema success of Super Mario Bros. has inspired Nintendo to pursue additional blockbuster films. In addition to the live-action Legend of Zelda film and a follow-up Super Mario Bros. installment, there are rumors that a Donkey Kong movie might be under development too.
It’s been reported that both Nintendo and Universal have submitted a copyright application for a “Untitled Donkey Kong Movie” project.
The partnership between Nintendo and Universal on a Donkey Kong film is quite amusing, considering that at one point, Universal took legal action against Nintendo, claiming that Donkey Kong’s name was too similar to King Kong. However, in this specific court case (with a lawyer named Kirby presiding), Universal lost their argument. Now, ironically, they are working together to bring Donkey Kong to the cinema.
As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled to share that everyone’s favorite tie-wearing monkey, Donkey Kong, has made an appearance in the Super Mario Bros. universe! And here’s some fantastic news – Seth Rogan lends his voice to our beloved ape in the upcoming game, Donkey Kong Bananza!
