Nicole Kidman made a promise to collaborate with numerous female filmmakers after the #MeToo movement, and she’s since exceeded that pledge. In a recent conversation with Time magazine, she shared insights about her experience along this path.
Actress from The Perfect Couple has pointed out that in more recent times, women directors may find themselves facing unprecedented expectations – essentially needing to excel exceptionally well on their initial projects, as if they must be flawless in their debuts.
She added that this perspective might shift, but solely if a greater number of individuals proactively back female movie directors. “By appearing in women’s movies,” she underscored, is a way for the industry to progress.
Last year, Kidman mentioned that she had made a promise back in 2017. In an interview with Deadline, she reminisced about a press event at Cannes, where she committed to collaborate with a female director approximately every 1.5 years.
Later on, she confessed that the initial time frame was 18 months, but in her mind, she understood it would be roughly every six months up to a year.
Understanding that there’s no other choice, she emphasized, ‘It’s time to get down to work,'” the A Family Affair actress said instead.
Embracing every syllable of her insightful wisdom, I can’t help but resonate with Nicole Kidman’s words: “Not holding back and simply pushing forward.” Her emphasis on unwavering determination and consistent effort is the key to realizing my own dreams, mirroring hers.
In addition, the actress from Just Go with It emphasized that a crucial part of achieving this goal involved announcing her dedication openly, keeping herself responsible, and staying committed regardless of any obstacles.
Over the past while, Kidman has been teaming up with at least 19 female directors following her commitment, such as in the well-known AMC Theatres advertisement. Among her recent ventures is the 2020 erotic thriller Babygirl, helmed by director Halina.
