In a break from usual practice, the U.S. Treasury Department is adding some celebrity sparkle to the launch of a new financial policy. On Wednesday, they’ll host a summit to officially introduce Trump Accounts, a key part of last year’s financial reform law. Joining President Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will be rapper Nicki Minaj, actress Cheryl Hines, and businessman Kevin O’Leary from the show Shark Tank.
Trump Accounts are a new type of retirement account designed to help American children save for the future. Starting in 2025, every child born in the US will automatically receive a $1,000 initial deposit from the government. After that, parents and employers can contribute up to $5,000 each year. Government officials are holding a meeting with leaders, regular citizens, and other important groups to explain how these accounts will work.
Look, Secretary Bessent is really going all-in on getting these accounts known by everyone – he’s even teasing a Super Bowl commercial! I got a preview of what’s coming at the upcoming summit, which they’re streaming live on X, and it seems the main goal is to break down the often-confusing rules around investing and taking money out. Basically, the department is planning to clearly explain how these Trump Accounts actually work, talk about what kind of impact they expect on the economy, and really drive home the idea that they’re trying to open up financial opportunities for more people.
Having celebrities involved is bringing unusual attention to the Treasury Department. Nicki Minaj, who has recently been speaking more about her political views, even appeared at a Turning Point USA event and praised the current administration. In a recent interview, the rapper said, “I don’t know if he even knows this, but he’s given so many people hope.”
Beyond the financial summit, Nicki Minaj is preparing for a massive media takeover in early 2026.
