As a fellow artist who walked the same halls and shared the same stages with these incredible talents during our Disney days, I can’t help but feel a sense of awe and pride when I look back at what Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, and Demi Lovato have achieved. It feels like we were all in this creative school together, honing our craft while navigating the challenges of adolescence.
Onstage at the Red Sea Film Festival on December 12th, Nick Jonas enthusiastically praised his former Disney Channel companions Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, and Demi Lovato, expressing admiration for their impressive careers. Reflecting on his time with the channel, the 32-year-old shared memories that significantly influenced his professional path.
Nick Jonas featured prominently in the TV show “Jonas” alongside his brothers Kevin Jonas and Joe Jonas from 2009 to 2010 on Disney Channel. He described his time there as a creative learning experience, since it overlapped with his high school years (when he was aged between 14 and 18). Additionally, Nick appeared in the Camp Rock films alongside Lovato. Meanwhile, during this period, Lovato had a role in Sonny with a Chance, while Gomez portrayed Alex Russo in Wizards of Waverly Place, and Cyrus rose to global recognition through Hannah Montana, achieving international stardom.
Jonas highlighted the fact that this group of budding actors, who eventually achieved worldwide fame as pop stars such as Cyrus, Gomez, and Lovato, initially formed a bond and have since forged impressive and enduring careers in the industry.
Reflecting on Disney, the singer shared with Variety, “I consider it a creative university. It was, in fact, a real school. I was from 14 to 18 years old, which corresponds to high school. The graduating class of Miley [Cyrus], Selena [Gomez], and Demi [Lovato] – we were all growing up together during that time. You can clearly see the longevity of our careers and the success we’ve each achieved.
Jonas spoke about the recent successes of some of his past coworkers, particularly Selena, who was nominated for a Golden Globe as Emilia Pérez. He commended Disney for their talent discovery and nurturing abilities, stating, “I believe that’s a true reflection of Disney’s knack for spotting and cultivating talent, appreciating what makes someone special while figuring out how to fit it into their system.
Following their temporary split in 2013 and reunion in 2019, Nick Jonas enjoyed success as a solo performer. Looking ahead to the future, Nick Jonas returns to Broadway in 2025, collaborating with Tony-winning Adrienne Warren in Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years.
