As a long-time fan of both Nicholas Hoult and the Batman franchise, I can’t help but feel a tinge of sympathy for Hoult missing out on the role of Batman. However, his journey doesn’t end there! The fact that he’s now set to play Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s upcoming DCU project is nothing short of exhilarating. I can just imagine Hoult, suited up as Luthor, scheming and cackling with glee, while Pattinson broods in the Batcave. And here’s a little joke to lighten things up: Maybe one day we’ll see Hoult and Pattinson on-screen together, but I guess we’ll just have to wait for a DCU crossover event – or maybe a superhero team-up against their own egos!
In a recent episode of “Happy Sad Confused”, Nicholas Hoult revealed that he discovered Robert Pattinson had been chosen as Batman through a radio broadcast – only days before his own planned audition for the part. Here’s what Hoult expressed about almost landing the coveted superhero role:
Absolutely, it’s undeniably a tough pill to swallow. On one hand, you’re cognizant of the practical reality: ‘I am indeed competing with Rob for the role.’ And let’s face it, Rob is exceptional in that film, making him a fitting choice. The director, Matt Reeves, is indeed brilliant and the script is captivating.
The film is amazing, and I’d love to join its cast. It’s an outstanding role. There’s a bit of hesitation before the joy sets in, after you’ve been accepted and seen the movie, thinking ‘was that the best decision? What if I had done things differently? Why wasn’t it me?’ You go through a phase of self-doubt, questioning your choices.
A week prior to our Batman test, I was behind the wheel of my car with the radio playing when they announced that Rob had been chosen as the new Batman. I thought to myself, “That’s not official yet! I have an audition coming up next week. Let me show what I can do too.
Although Pattinson was chosen as Batman instead, Houlton is poised to embody the legendary character Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s forthcoming DCU production titled “Superman.
James Gunn is an exceptional director, and I was thrilled about the work he was doing at DC, according to Hoult. He shared that when they spoke, it was because they were aware I had previously been involved with Batman. They didn’t want me to relive that process again, which was considerate of them. There was a sense that they valued me as an actor and wanted me to be part of their universe.
