As a seasoned DC Universe enthusiast with a soft spot for gripping storylines and masterful character portrayals, I am nothing short of thrilled about Nicholas Hoult stepping into the shoes of Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s visionary take on Superman.
In December 2024, the fresh DC Universe led by James Gunn and Peter Safran kicks off with “Creature Commandos,” but it’s important to note that the true beginning of their cinematic universe will be marked by the release of “Superman” in the year 2025.
Although specifics about the upcoming ‘Superman’ movie haven’t been fully disclosed yet, what we do know is that it will feature an extensive cast, comprising both characters who have appeared in prior live-action productions and those who are set to make their first live-action appearance on screen.
In the upcoming movie, it’s been confirmed that Lex Luthor, a villainous character, will indeed be featured. Notably, Nicholas Hoult – an accomplished English actor recognized for his work in films like “About a Boy,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” and as Beast in the “X-Men” series – has been cast to portray Lex Luthor.
Hoult, who has been praised for his ability to take on both serious and comedic roles, recently spoke about playing this iconic character, sharing his excitement and saying he feels lucky to work with director James Gunn.
It feels incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to collaborate on such an iconic figure like Lex Luthor, especially with someone as unique in talent and perspective as James Gunn.
It’s fascinating to me that James Gunn possesses an exceptional, unique style and perspective in his filmmaking, which makes it thrilling to work alongside him. His enthusiasm for creation is contagious, as evidenced by the passion of everyone on set working alongside him.
It was absolutely contagious, being near it! I adored the encounter, and as an enthusiast, I’m simply thrilled to discover their latest creation. I believe it could turn out to be truly unique and exceptional.
Hoult also shared his thoughts on Peter Safran and James Gunn’s fresh take on the DC Universe:
They appear to be meticulous about their plans, ensuring they’re thoroughly prepared before proceeding with any project. They want to ensure they have the perfect narrative and the right team in place, so everything is executed flawlessly.
Since they genuinely prioritize care and strive for quality, I believe this is the foundation for winning over trust and creating something enjoyable. Here’s hoping that this leads to even more success in the future.
According to Gunn, the project can only commence production once the script has been completely finalized. He further emphasized that even though a project might be announced as part of DCU’s Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters, it won’t proceed if the script lacks sufficient strength.
