Hunter Andrews and Eoin Doran wrote the screenplay, and the film was produced by Bankside Films, Agile Films, It’s All Made Up Productions, and Hoopsa Films. Filming happened in London and Somerset over the summer of 2024, including scenes at the historic Shepton Mallet Prison. Cinematographer Lorenzo Levrini aimed for a gritty and realistic look for the film.

The film Wasteman debuted as the central presentation at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. It will be released in the United Kingdom on February 20, 2026.
