You can now watch a new documentary about war photographer Lynsey Addario on Disney+.
The film, Love+War, was made by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, the filmmakers behind several gripping and emotionally resonant stories.
The movie Love+War had its first public showing at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2025. It was shown in a few theaters starting October 29th, and then broadcast on National Geographic on November 6th. The film follows photojournalist Lynsey Addario’s career, showing not only her important work covering conflicts around the world, but also the difficulties it created in her personal life, especially as a mother.
The documentary has received very positive reviews. Rotten Tomatoes shows a 100% approval rating based on 16 reviews, and Metacritic gave it a score of 71, which also indicates widespread praise.
Jason Gorber from Next Best Picture rated the film an eight out of ten, praising it as emotionally powerful, thrilling, and important. He noted the filmmakers skillfully captured the perspective of a fellow photographer. Leslie Felperin of The Hollywood Reporter pointed out that the film uniquely explores how Lynsey Addario’s work affects her role as a mother, differentiating it from other documentaries about war photography.
I was completely captivated by Love+War. It’s an incredible documentary that really pulls you in with its honest look at war, but what struck me most was how personal it was. You get to see what it’s really like for a journalist like Addario, balancing life at home with reporting from the most dangerous places in the world. And the best part? You can now stream it on Disney+ and experience her journey for yourself!
