Omoya Kitagawa is directing the new season, taking over from Keiichiro Saito at studio MADHOUSE. Tomohiro Suzuki is once again in charge of the series’ overall structure, while Yuri Fujinaka, Keisuke Kojima, and Maru Takase designed the characters. The music is composed by Evan Call.
The series features the returning voice cast, including Atsumi Tanezaki as Frieren, Kana Ichinose as Fern, Chiaki Kobayashi as Stark, Nobuhiko Okamoto as Himmel, Yoji Ueda as Eisen, and Hiroki Tochi as Heiter.
After the heroes finally defeat the Demon King and bring peace to the land, the story follows Frieren as she grapples with the fact that humans don’t live forever. She takes on an apprentice and begins a journey to make sure her friends’ last wishes are honored.
The first season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End was highly acclaimed. Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes gave it a perfect 100% score, based on five reviews, with an average rating of 8.8 out of 10.
Since early 2024, the anime has consistently ranked highly on popular anime platforms like MyAnimeList and Anime News Network. Critics have lauded it as one of the best fantasy anime of 2023, with praise directed at its relaxing mood, excellent sound, and thoughtful exploration of time. Reviewers also noted the compelling relationships between characters, and how the show skillfully blends emotional depth with everyday life moments, particularly in Frieren’s personal journey.
