The newest teaser trailer for “Predator: Badlands” has just been released, offering a sneak peek to followers of this action-packed franchise about what to expect next in the Predator series.
In November 2025, a fresh sci-fi action flick produced by 20th Century Studios will debut in cinemas. This film is under the direction of Dan Trachtenberg, featuring Elle Fanning and newcomer Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi on the cast list.
In the distant future, the story of Predator: Badlands unfolds on a distant planet. The protagonist, a young Predator named Dek, portrayed by Schuster-Koloamatangi, is cast out from his clan due to his small size. Struggling to survive on his own, he forms an alliance with Thia, an android manufactured by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, played by Elle Fanning. This dynamic duo embarks on a perilous quest in search of a formidable opponent known as the ultimate adversary.
Film director Dan Trachtenberg, recognized for his work on “Prey” and “Predator: Killer of Killers”, reveals that the film draws inspiration from artists such as Frank Frazetta and filmmakers like Terrence Malick. He also cited classic movies like “Shane” and “Mad Max 2” as sources of influence, as well as the video game “Shadow of the Colossus”.
As stated by Trachtenberg, we aimed for an exhilarating blend that encompassed the spirit of a Western and a survival-themed escapade, all while infusing it with plenty of emotional depth.
In this film, there’s a significant shift in focus as to whom the central figure is. Rather than humans battling against the Predators, the Predator becomes the protagonist in this tale. The character Dek, however, differs markedly from previous depictions of Predators.
In a different but understandable way: This character is smaller, less powerful, and more sensitive. The filmmakers devised a unique written and spoken tongue specifically for the Predator race in this particular movie. Language expert Paul Frommer, who crafted the Na’vi language seen in Avatar, was instrumental in developing the Predator language. Actor Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi studied this new language to portray his character, Dek, accurately.
In Studio Gillis’ design, Dek’s creature suit was made functional, enhancing his facial expressions digitally and using motion capture technology. Weta Workshop further contributed to the film by handling its practical effects and designing the creatures.
The narrative of this movie delves deeper into the society and customs of the Predators, contrasting with earlier films. As per producer John Davis, it’s a standalone tale, offering a refreshing take while maintaining the familiar essence of the Predator franchise.
Along with a new trailer, new poster was also released:
The filming of “Badlands” began in New Zealand towards the end of August 2024, under a false title “Backpack.” Filming concluded in October of the same year. Notably, cinematographer Jeff Cutter, who previously worked on “Prey,” was responsible for the camera work during this production.
In the upcoming movie, Predator: Badlands, we’ll see the Weyland-Yutani Corporation make an appearance, tying it slightly to a broader cinematic universe similar to that seen in the Alien films.
The upcoming film, titled “Predator: Badlands“, marks the seventh installment in the primary series and the ninth film within the entire Predator franchise. Excited fans can already view the trailer, counting down to its release in November this year.
