40 years from now, we’ll be celebrating a significant milestone – the diamond anniversary of Super Mario Bros., which made its debut back in 1985. Although Mario had his initial appearance in Donkey Kong in 1981 and shone in Mario Bros. in 1983, it was only with Super Mario Bros. that he truly became the iconic figure of Nintendo for us gamers.

To date, Nintendo hasn’t said much about any significant anniversary events, but there’s a rumor on Instagram by user “Mr. Nintendad” suggesting they might have something extraordinary planned. The post asserts that Nintendo could be developing a Super Mario project to celebrate its 40th anniversary in conjunction with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
