The story of Stargate first appeared in a movie in 1994, and has since grown into a large universe with many films and TV shows. Now, a new series is coming to Prime Video. Amazon MGM Studios has officially approved the production of this new sci-fi adventure based on the popular franchise.
Amazon MGM Studios is making a new Stargate show, confirming earlier reports that excited science fiction fans. The studio describes the series as a fresh and exciting addition to the well-known Stargate universe.
Martin Gero, the creator of Blindspot, is also the showrunner for this new series. Joining as executive producers are Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures (known for Obi-Wan Kenobi and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters), along with Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich (Stargate). Brad Wright and Joe Mallozzi, both with extensive experience on Stargate, will contribute as consulting producers.
Gero shared his personal connection to the series and explained how much this new installment means to him.
My career in television began twenty years ago with Stargate: Atlantis, where I worked as a Story Editor. Over the next five years, I contributed to all three Stargate series, and those experiences taught me everything I know about making TV – it’s become a core part of how I work. I’m incredibly excited that Amazon MGM Studios has asked me to lead this amazing franchise into its future. This is especially for the longtime fans who’ve kept the spirit of Stargate alive through conventions and continued support. And to anyone discovering Stargate for the first time, I promise you’re in for a fantastic experience.
Amazon MGM Studios hasn’t released any information about who will be involved in the new show or what it will be about. However, this suggests it won’t be directly tied to earlier seasons and movies, which could be a good thing given how many there have been. Nick Pepper, a development executive at Amazon MGM Studios, hinted at this in a recent announcement.
According to Pepper, Stargate is a long-lasting and well-known series that has fascinated viewers for many years with its imaginative take on humanity’s role in the universe. They are excited to collaborate with Martin, Tory, and Joby to create a new installment for Prime Video’s worldwide audience, building on the show’s history while also moving it forward in a compelling and heartfelt way.
