As a seasoned gamer and avid collector of all things Marvel and Star Wars, I must say that Disney’s latest announcement has sent shivers of excitement down my spine! Growing up with VHS tapes and later Blu-ray discs, it feels like coming full circle to see these beloved series getting the Steelbook treatment.
Disney is set to debut four exclusive collector’s editions of high-definition Blu-rays in 4K Ultra HD (UHD), featuring beloved series from Star Wars and Marvel Studios. These special releases, which are only available on Disney+, include the first seasons of The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Hawkeye, and Loki. Remarkably, these series will be making their physical media debut in 4K UHD for the very first time.
Each freshly launched title arrives encased in Steelbook packaging, offering additional features, unique artwork, and collectible concept art prints by artist Attila Szarka, who has designed the cover art for every release.
Beginning on October 31st, you can pre-order all four of the latest releases. Similar to past Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios Blu-ray editions, these Steelbooks are set for a nationwide launch. Notably, these new launches will mark the first Disney+ originals to offer Ultra HD Dolby Vision and Atmos sound.
In the third season of “The Mandalorian” on Blu-ray, you’ll find three additional features. One is a heartfelt tribute to Carl Weathers, who played Greef Karga, unfortunately passing away. Another segment delves into the creative process behind crafting all the creatures and droids seen in the series. Lastly, Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and other filmmakers take you on a journey through the ever-growing universe of Mandalorian warriors in season three.
The first season of “Ahsoka” on Blu-ray comes with four extra elements. Among these are a focus on Ahsoka’s associates and revealing the mysteries behind her adversaries. Additionally, the feature titled “Ahsoka: Legacy” delves into the creative journey behind the series production.
The Hawkeye Blu-ray offers four extra features, one highlighting over a dozen deleted scenes from the series. Additionally, you’ll find a hilarious gag reel in this package that I can’t resist given the opportunity to witness more humorous exchanges between Kate and Clint. The remaining bonus content provides an insightful look into the show’s production and evolution.
In the second season of Loki on Blu-ray, you’ll find four extra treats. These include three longer or cut scenes from the series, plus a funny outtakes reel that promises to be amusing, given it stars Tom Hiddleston. The Blu-ray package also offers an exclusive look behind the scenes titled “Assembled: The Making of Loki Season 2“, extending the series that started with the debut season. This special feature lets you journey through the history of Loki alongside Tom Hiddleston and Kevin Feige, delving deeper into the fascinating character arc of this beloved anti-hero.
All four new titles are available on Dec 3 for your viewing and collecting pleasure.
