New Record Holder: Latest Anime Hit Becomes The Highest-Grossing Anime Film Of All Time

Anime lovers are thrilled that *Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle* is now the highest-earning anime film ever made.

The film recently earned more money at the box office than Jordan Peele’s *Get Out*, becoming the top-grossing movie of the weekend.

Following a record-breaking debut of $70 million in the U.S. last weekend, *Demon Slayer* is predicted to earn $17.3 million this weekend. While that’s a 77% decrease, it’s still forecast to be enough to keep it at the top of the box office.

Jordan Peele’s new film, *Him*, is expected to earn $13.5 million, which is a bit lower than initial predictions of $15 million. The film is a production of Universal and Monkeypaw.

The movie, created by Ufotable and released through Crunchyroll (which is owned by Sony), has quickly become a hit around the world. It’s now made over $555 million, making it the highest-grossing anime film of all time.

The new film, *Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle*, continues the story from the anime’s fourth season and adapts the “Infinity Castle” story arc from the original manga series, which ran from 2016 to 2020. It follows previous *Demon Slayer* movies like *Mugen Train* (2020), *To the Swordsmith Village* (2023), and *To the Hashira Training* (2024). However, *Infinity Castle* is a completely new, full-length movie, unlike the previous two films which were essentially collections of existing episodes. This new movie will tell the complete and dramatic story of the “Infinity Castle” arc.

The movie, directed by Haruo Sotozaki and created by the team at Ufotable, premiered in Japan on July 18th with the title *Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle – Part 1: Akaza Returns*.

The show first launched in August in some Asian countries via Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures, and then became available worldwide in September.

I’m absolutely blown away by this movie! It’s already made history, becoming the biggest Japanese film ever worldwide and the top-grossing movie here in Japan for 2025. It’s even the ninth highest-grossing film globally this year! Everyone’s talking about how amazing the action and visuals are, and I agree – the story really pulled me in. A few people have mentioned the pacing felt a little off at times, but honestly, it didn’t bother me too much.
