Sony is working on a new Men in Black movie, bringing the popular franchise back to the big screen.
According to Deadline, Chris Bremner, who wrote Bad Boys for Life, will be writing the script for the next movie in the series.
Will Smith Expected to Get the Script First
Although the cast hasn’t been announced yet, sources say Will Smith will be one of the first to read the completed script from Bremner.
So, Sony’s really trying to revive the Men in Black franchise, and they’re hoping to bring back Agent J – Will Smith, of course. The big question is how. They haven’t said if he’d be the lead again, or just pop in for a cameo as a seasoned veteran, passing the torch to a new agent. It’s all up in the air right now, but they definitely want him involved in some capacity.
Smith is not committed and won’t make a decision until he reads the draft.

Franchise Remains a Major Sony Asset
I’ve always loved the Men in Black movies! It’s amazing to think they’ve earned almost $2 billion globally over four films, starting with the first one back in 1997. And it’s great to see they’re still popular – it reminds me of how well the Bad Boys movies have done recently, and it’s cool that both franchises seem to have a connection to the same producer. Though, let’s be honest, Men in Black: International with Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson didn’t quite hit the mark.
The movie is currently in the very early stages of planning, and no production agreements are finalized yet. However, previous films in the series were produced by Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, with Steven Spielberg as an executive producer.
