Pixar is beginning to generate buzz for Toy Story 5, and Empire magazine recently shared a first glimpse of Buzz Lightyear from the upcoming film.
Pixar’s new animated comedy, made for Walt Disney Pictures, will be released in US theaters on June 19, 2026.
Andrew Stanton will write and direct the new Toy Story movie, which is the fifth film in the popular series.
The original voice actors – Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Tony Hale, Blake Clark, and John Ratzenberger – are back to play their beloved characters. Joining them are new cast members Anna Faris, Ernie Hudson, Conan O’Brien, and Greta Lee, who will voice a new character named Lilypad.

The story continues after Woody decides to help lost toys find new homes. Back at Bonnie’s house, Jessie is now in charge, with Buzz Lightyear helping her. However, Bonnie, who is eight years old now, has become attached to a new toy – a tablet shaped like a frog called Lilypad – and this changes things for all the toys.
People have been hoping for a fifth Toy Story movie for several years. Tim Allen first brought up the idea in early 2019, and even though Tom Hanks had suggested Toy Story 4 would be the end, the possibility of continuing the series lingered. In February 2023, Disney officially announced Toy Story 5 was in development, with both Hanks and Allen set to return. Andrew Stanton was confirmed as the director in June 2024 and will also be writing the screenplay.
This will be the first main Toy Story film without co-creator John Lasseter, who left Pixar in 2018.
