Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton star as Harry, Ron, and Hermione Granger, respectively. The series also features John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. Francesca Gardiner is the showrunner, with Mark Mylod directing.
Work on the project started back in January 2021, aiming to create a close and accurate version of J.K. Rowling’s books.
The search for the main actors began in November 2024, and the core cast was set by April of this year. After reviewing roughly 32,000 auditions, Francesca Gardiner and the team chose Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton in May. Filming officially started in July at Leavesden Studios in Hertfordshire.
The series, initially intended for HBO Max, will now debut on HBO in the U.S. in early 2027. The first season will have eight episodes.
