As someone who has been deeply immersed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for decades now, I must say that the latest theory surrounding Agatha Harkness is truly intriguing. If proven correct, it would certainly take her character to new and darker heights, which I, for one, am eager to witness.
Initially, when Kathryn Hahn debuted Agatha on ‘WandaVision,’ viewers found themselves enthralled by both her acting prowess and the lengths Agatha went in pursuit of power.
If recent fan speculation proves accurate, it seems that the Marvel Cinematic Universe might be exploring a much grimmer side of Agatha’s character, shifting her from comedic to ominous and menacing.
Comics portray Agatha Harkness not strictly evil but rather a morally complex figure. She’s teamed up with groups like the Fantastic Four and the Avengers, and even cared for Franklin Richards, son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm, as his nanny, suggesting that superheroes have placed trust in her.
Yet, I previously noted that recent speculation casts doubt on Agatha’s reliability, even towards her own kin. In the opening episode, while Agatha is still masquerading as Agnes, she can be observed sneaking into a suspected children’s bedroom within her Westview residence.
On the plaque, the name “Nicholas Scratch” is displayed. In the comics, Nicholas is Agatha’s son, and their relationship is marked by ongoing conflict, as they both have moments where they try to eliminate each other. This frequent animosity stems mainly from Nicholas’s clearly villainous personality.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s suggested that Agatha gave up Nicholas as a sacrifice to acquire the Darkhold. A notable hint is the appearance of the Darkhold within what seems like a baby’s cradle.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but notice the intense dynamic between Aubrey Plaza’s character, Rio Vidal, and Agatha. Aubrey herself has hinted at a complex past shared by these characters, implying that they might have co-parented Nicholas at some point. However, it seems that Agatha prioritized power over their relationship, which could explain the tension between them.
It’s also possible that Agatha inadvertently turned her son, Senor Scratchy, into a pet rabbit. This mistake might cause her deep remorse.
