New ‘Conjuring’ Prequel Moving Forward After Record ‘Last Rites’ Box Office

The popular horror series The Conjuring will continue, following the success of The Conjuring: Last Rites, which earned $487 million worldwide.

Warner Bros. and New Line are working on a new prequel movie that will explore the beginnings of Ed and Lorraine Warren’s career. This film will establish an earlier timeline within the ongoing Conjuring universe.

Rodrigue Huart is being considered to direct a new short film. The screenplay is being written by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg, who previously wrote the scripts for several Conjuring movies and The Nun II.

This allows The Conjuring franchise to continue while moving forward to a different time period.

The Conjuring Heads to HBO

As previously announced, The Conjuring will also expand to television.

Record-Setting Horror Universe

The Conjuring film series, which includes nine movies like Annabelle and The Nun, has made $2.7 billion around the world. A key to its success is that these films are relatively inexpensive to make compared to other big-budget movies. James Wan launched the franchise, and Peter Safran has been involved in producing every film since.
