James Gunn has revealed that Tom Rhys Harries will be starring as Clayface in the upcoming DCU movie. After a thorough and energy-draining selection process, according to Gunn.

In a post on Threads, Gunn revealed the casting and praised Harries’ performance.

Who Is Tom Rhys Harries?
Harries is a Welsh actor known for roles in:
- Suspicion (Apple TV) opposite Uma Thurman
- The Return, opposite Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche
- Kandahar with Gerard Butler
- The Gentlemen from Guy Ritchie
- White Lines (Netflix)
Harries emerged victorious over multiple competitors for the role, with Jack O’Connell, Tom Blyth, and George MacKay among those who also sought the position.
As a Cardiff-born film enthusiast who honed my craft at the prestigious Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, I had the privilege of making my West End debut in the production “Mojo,” sharing the stage with none other than Rupert Grint and Ben Whishaw.
What’s Clayface About?
As a dedicated cinema enthusiast, I’m excitedly anticipating the release of “Clayface” in the freshly minted DCU. This intriguing production is poised as a chilling horror-tragedy on a more modest budget. The narrative revolves around a struggling B-list actor who, in a desperate bid to stay relevant, unwittingly transforms into a shape-shifting entity after coming into contact with an enigmatic substance.
In the world of DC Comics, the monster known as Clayface made his debut in “Detective Comics #40” back in 1940. Over time, his abilities have expanded, but he is generally portrayed as a man transformed into a shape-shifting creature and a recurring antagonist of Batman.
The movie is orchestrated by James Watkins, who also directed “Speak No Evil”. The initial script was penned by Mike Flanagan, with subsequent revisions contributed by Hossein Amini, known for works like “Drive” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi”.
DC Studios Moving Forward
Gunn and Peter Safran are working together with “The Batman” director Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris on a new project. This project, titled “Clayface,” is part of Gunn’s latest lineup for DC, following “Creature Commandos” and “Superman.” The latter is set to release on July 11, 2025.
DC Studios is anticipated to unveil fresh clips and updates during the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con in August, which may include sneak peeks of Peacemaker Season 2 and potentially some glimpses into Clayface as well.
