Netflix’s The Residence: Release Date, Trailer, Cast, and What to Expect From The White House Murder Mystery

Netflix has unveiled the official preview for its upcoming political thriller series, titled “The Residence,” which is due to air on March 20th. This captivating show, produced by Shonda Rhimes’ company, Shondaland, takes place within the White House and revolves around an intense investigation that unfolds during a disastrous state dinner. The blend of suspenseful intrigue and sharp wit promises an engaging viewing experience for audiences.

The Series centers around Cordelia Cupp, an accomplished detective, who delves into the mystery surrounding the assassination of A.B. Wynter, the White House’s chief usher, as reported by ScreenRealm.

In the role portrayed by Uzo Aduba, Cup finds herself entangled in a tangled maze of political intrigue, personal grudges, and over one hundred potential suspects. Randall Park is introduced as FBI Special Agent Edwin Park, lending his aid to the ongoing investigation.

The tale draws its origins from the real-life account, “The Residence: Unveiling the Private Lives of the White House Staff” penned by Kate Andersen Brower.

The book delves into the personal lives of American Presidents, their families, and the people working at the White House. On the other hand, the Netflix show adopts a fictitious angle by weaving a murder mystery narrative.

The show boasts a significant number of main actors, with Giancarlo Esposito portraying the role of the slain character, A.B. Wynter. Among others in the cast are Jane Curtin, Ken Marino, Susan Kelechi Watson, and Jason Lee, who takes on the part of Tripp Morgan, the president’s defiant younger sibling.

Australian pop sensation Kylie Minogue briefly appears in a cameo role, portraying herself as a guest at the White House. In an interview with Netflix’s Tudum, Aduba described her character as bold, direct, and authentic, never shy about expressing who she truly is.

In addition, she noted that Cordelia’s passion for birdwatching shapes her investigative approach, explaining, “Attention to every tiny detail is crucial when observing birds, and everything ties together.

Paul William Davies, recognized for his work on Scandal, is the one who developed this series. He shared that The Residence takes its cues from timeless mystery movies such as Charade (1963) for inspiration.

Davies remarked that ‘The Residence’ is indeed multifaceted. It’s amusing, it creates tension, it’s smart, it can be absurdly over-the-top at times, and yet, it’s genuinely heartfelt and romantic in certain moments.
