Netflix’s Medical Drama Pulse Starring Willa Fitzgerald, Justina Machado and More Gets Release Date

Netflix has hinted at a new medical drama, similar to Grey’s Anatomy, titled “Pulse.” This high-tension show is due to stream in April, with Willa Fitzgerald from The Fall of the House of Usher and Colin Woodell from The Continental serving as the main characters. The series will span over 10 episodes.

The upcoming series, created by Emmy-winning Carlton Cuse and writer Zoe Robyn, follows Miami’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center doctors as they deal with various medical emergencies. In a conversation with Tudum, Robyn described the hospital as, “Not where you’d ideally want to be. But if you had to be in a hospital, this is the one you’d choose. You’d feel safe and well-cared for by these people.

The storyline revolves around Dr. Danny Simms, a third-year resident (played by Fitzgerald), who’s caught off guard when he receives a promotion after Chief Resident Dr. Xander Phillips (Woodell) is suspended. As a hurricane approaches Miami, the ER falls into chaos, forcing Danny and Phillips to handle not just the medical emergencies but also the complexities of their intermittent romantic relationship.

This show explores the complexities where ambition collides with personal struggles, hinting that helping others might be easier than managing one’s own life. The diverse cast includes Justina Machado (known for One Day at a Time), Jack Bannon (Pennyworth), Daniela Nieves (Vampire Academy), Néstor Carbonell (The Morning Show), and Jessie T. Usher (The Boys), along with others.

The show is planned to explore workplace dynamics during stressful situations, featuring Robyn and Cuse aiming for authentic portrayals of doctors dealing with professional and personal struggles. Unlike most medical shows that portray doctors as almost superhuman, Pulse is said to emphasize the genuine challenges of balancing work, relationships, and personal goals.

Robyn stated, “Our intention was to portray Danny and Phillips’ office romance as genuine and authentic. We aimed to explore the complexities and ambiguities of their situation. The series, Pulse, highlights the struggles and setbacks in their relationship, but also captures the delightful aspects of working under such high-stress conditions.

Beginning April 3, 2025, all 10 thrilling episodes of Pulse, featuring intense medical scenarios, life-threatening emergencies, and compelling character stories, will be available to stream on Netflix.
