Netflix has chosen Johan Renck, the director of the acclaimed HBO series Chernobyl, to direct its upcoming live-action Assassin’s Creed show, according to Variety.
The show is rounding out its main cast. Toby Wallace, famous for his role in Euphoria, and Lola Petticrew, known from Say Nothing, have been cast as the leads. They’ll be joined by Zachary Hart, who was in Slow Horses, and Laura Marcus, who appeared in Death by Lightning, both in recurring roles.
As a big fan of the Assassin’s Creed games, I was thrilled to hear Netflix was finally tackling it! It’s based on that awesome franchise – you know, the one with all the time travel and hidden conflicts. This series is actually the first project to come out of Netflix’s deal with Ubisoft, which they started way back in 2020. I’ve been waiting for this one!
Details about the plot are still largely a secret, but the story is about a hidden conflict between two groups. One group wants to control humanity’s future, while the other fights to protect people’s freedom. The series will follow characters as they participate in important historical events and struggle to decide the fate of humankind.
This new project expands Netflix’s collection of video game adaptations, aiming to recreate the world of Assassin’s Creed with a blend of historical storytelling and exciting action.
