To mark its 16th anniversary in 2022, Netflix unveiled exciting news for “Gears of War” enthusiasts – a live-action movie based on the popular action game was in the works. Moreover, Netflix suggested that this could be just the beginning, hinting at the possibility of an entire cinematic universe for the games. They also announced an adult animated series with potential sequels. However, details about the Netflix “Gears of War” movie remain scarce. In 2023, Netflix disclosed that Jon Spaihts, writer of the “Dune” movies and “Doctor Strange”, would be responsible for adapting the game into a film. Subsequently, there was no news for two years. But now it seems high-profile director David Leitch has joined the project to direct the Netflix movie.

The report also indicates that Dune writer Jon Spaihts remains attached to Gears of War.

It appears that approach for the live-action Gears of War movie is looking quite promising. Previous attempts at adapting the game have fallen through, but given the current boom in video game adaptations, we’re optimistic that this project will finally materialize.
