Spotify reports that the animated film’s soundtrack was the second most-streamed album worldwide in 2025, only surpassed by Bad Bunny’s DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS. The K-pop Demon Hunters’ song, Golden, also ranked as the seventh most-played track globally.
Since the movie became a huge success after debuting on Netflix on June 20th, it’s no surprise the soundtrack is also doing incredibly well. It’s actually been streamed more than albums by popular artists like Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, and Sabrina Carpenter, proving just how much of a cultural moment the film has become.
K-pop Demon Hunters is an animated musical film from Sony Pictures Animation and Netflix, directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. The movie, written by Kang, Appelhans, Danya Jimenez, and Hannah McMechan, features the voices of Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Yunjin Kim, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Lee Byung-hun. It’s about a K-pop girl group called Huntrix who secretly battle demons, all while competing with their rivals, the Saja Boys – who are also demons!
As a total film buff, I was really captivated by the story’s roots – it beautifully blended Korean mythology, folklore about demons, and even the energy of K-pop! Visually, it was stunning. Sony Pictures Imageworks clearly drew inspiration from everything – concert lighting, music videos, anime, and those gorgeous Korean dramas. And the music? Seriously, the soundtrack, crafted by Marcelo Zarvos and others, was a huge success – I still listen to it all the time!
The film has received widespread acclaim for its stunning animation, unique visual style, compelling story, excellent voice performances, and memorable music. It quickly became Netflix’s most popular original film, racking up an impressive 325 million views. The film’s sing-along release in theaters was Netflix’s biggest yet, and it even reached number one at the US box office, beating out Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022).
The soundtrack was a huge success, making history as the first movie soundtrack to place four songs in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It quickly earned a Platinum certification from the RIAA and received five nominations for Grammy Awards. Beyond the music, Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation released a short film called Debut: A KPop Demon Hunters Story, with plans to create a sequel in 2029.
