Netflix Reveals First Look at ‘Demon City’, the Live-Action Adaptation of ‘Oni-Goroshi’ Manga

As a hardcore fan of manga and anime, I’ve been eagerly waiting for the premiere of Netflix‘s live-action adaptation of “Demon City”. Having grown up with the original comic “Oni Goroshi”, I can’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia. The story, known for its raw violence, has always held a special place in my heart, and I’m excited to see how it translates onto the big screen.

The live-action movie “Demon City” will start streaming on Netflix from February 27th. Originating from the comic “Oni Goroshi,” which was published between 2020 and November 2024, the narrative revolves around a hitman in Shinjo city who’s on a vengeful quest due to the heartbreaking demise of his wife and daughter. Renowned for its brutal and gory depictions, the comic garnered a dedicated following, and now it’s being adapted into a film.

The movie is crafted by Seiji Tanaka, who gained significant acclaim with his first film “Melancholic”, earning several awards such as Best Director at the 31st Tokyo International Film Festival. Tanaka’s unique skill in combining elements of drama, suspense, comedy, and horror sets him apart in the realm of filmmaking.

In this movie, Toma Ikuta plays the part of Shuhei Sakata, a ruthless assassin who’s out to bring down a secretive criminal organization that controls Shinjo. Known for his heartfelt acting in Netflix’s “Beyond Goodbye,” Ikuta steps into a more intense and action-oriented role here.

Additionally, Matsuya Onoe, Masahiro Higashide, Masanobu Takashima, and Mio Tanaka are part of the ensemble, portraying enigmatic antagonists in this production.

Watch Demon City on Netflix starting February 27.
